The transportation industry recognizes that an operator will take on an average of 15 to 25 minutes to refuel his or her truck, bus or tractor-trailer. This time spent is usually at overtime rates and becomes a direct cost of operation. In addition, the truck is effectively "out of operation" during this refueling period, so is unable to deliver or transport revenue adding product.
